"Soloist" depicts Castleton Tower, one the American West’s most iconic desert towers outside of Moab, Utah. The delicate linework ascending from the shadows of the canyon are symbolic of the relationship that many humans have with this place. Castleton Tower is a big climbing destination, thus many of its visitors trek to this place in the hopes of ascending it. The title is a reflection of both the sense of peaceful isolation that desert travelers can experience, as well as the goal that some climbers have of solo climbing Castleton.
The original was painted with acrylic & gouache on wood (pictured in last listing image).
